How to Measure the ROI of Your Loyalty Program

Many businesses launch a loyalty program without ever measuring whether it actually pays off. The result is either abandoning it too early, or continuing without knowing if it is worth it.

The core number: visit frequency before and after

Compare the average visit frequency of enrolled customers before they joined the program with their frequency afterward. If there is no increase, something about the program's structure needs revisiting.

Average order value

A customer collecting points tends to spend a little more per visit to get closer to their target reward. Track whether that holds true in your case too.

Reward cost vs. additional revenue

Calculate the total cost of rewards given out over a period, and compare it against the extra revenue from increased visit frequency. 4Loyalty gives you the visit data — calculating reward cost is something you already know from your own pricing.

If the numbers are not positive after 2-3 months, do not abandon it right away — first consider whether the target reward or conversion rate needs adjusting.
